  43. in to 200W range, that is a Base or Mobile, i might be interested. However
  44. i can only spend about $150 let me know if that sounds reasonable, i have

  128. I need a 6ft. long piece of 50 ohm low loss (like Belden 9913) coax with
  129. a female N connector on one end, and a mail N connector on the other. I
  130. can not build quality N connector connections by myself...

  132. I called Pasternack in So. Cal, and they had EXACTLY what I wanted, already
  133. built, for $37 US. Unfortunately, they want $100 minimum on all shipped
  134. orders even pre-payed by credit card! I couldn't believe this policy, but
  135. they insisted they were serious...

  137. So my question is where can I get such a piece of cable with connectors?
  138. I live in No. CA, and can order by phone from anywhere if anyone has any

  164. whether they have the filters installed etc.  I would be interested in

  177. The Kenwood TH-78A recieves down to 118 Mhz without modification.  It's 
  178. sensitivity is less than .32microV on it's sub band and less than 
  179. .16microV on the main.  In my opinion a very nice radio.  Kenwood just 
  180. came out with the TH-79A which replaces the 78A.  Right now they are 
  181. about $80 more than the 78A, but they should drop once Kenwood gets rid 
  182. of all its extra 78As.  The only real feature differences between the two 
  183. is the 79A is smaller, doesn't have a backlit keypad, does have an 
  184. "on-line" manual (I guess in case you bump your head and forget how to do 
  185. offsets).  They both put out approximately the same amount of watts.  I 
  186. would tell you more, but I can't seem to find the info I got from HRO a 
  187. few days ago.  If you want to know more about either one - you can email 
  188. me.  THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION ->I am not too impressed with what Icom has 
  189. been putting out these days.  I have a 2GAT and really like it - kind of 
  190. disapppointed that they discontinued them - oh well.  Well, that's what I 
  191. know about the Kenwoods.  Hope it helps.

  206. 232 MBX), on two bands.  when someone connects with him, his rig stops 
  207. scanning, and stays on that freq until he starts it again.  Does anyone

  221. be part of a charging system for 12 volt gel-cell batteries.

  224. numerous call boxes along highway shoulders for making emergency calls. These
  225. call boxes had a small solar panel attached near the top of the pole the call
  226. box is attached to. Does anybody know what kind of current capacity these
  227. have, where they might be purchased, what cost etc.? They appear to be about
  228. the physical size I am interested in for portability etc.

  260. This 'bang for the buck" phrase is somewhat ambiguous.  Do you want output
  261. power, memeories, 9600 baud packet, small size, built in duplexer or two
  262. output tails?
  263. There are so many new and used rigs around, but not many used ones for sale,
  264. so ask some local hams who have experience doing what you want to do.
  265. I have an Alinco DR570 in the car, an Icom IC24AT HT that I can hook up at
  266. home and an old Kenwood TS-700 multi-mode 2m at home.  I like 'em all, but
  267. I wish I had more memeories in the Alinco (it has 10 per band) and the
  268. Kenwood did repeater offsets on the 145 band, but the 24AT'll do inna pinch.

  320. Many of us tried, but your posting contained a return mail address which is
  321. invalid.  Try mailing yourself something from another site.  I notice that
  322. spookey.eecs.wsu.edu is not a registered internet node.  You either need
  323. to have your machine registered or find some way to post with your internet
  324. address.

  327. respond to postings they bounce back due to unregistered internet names

  390.   In Arizona at a hamfest several years ago, a guy had been working at
  391. the handheld division of Motorola and made a 40M rubber duck just to try
  392. it.  The antenna was about 10" long, 1.5 " diameter at the top which
  393. tapered to a male UHF connector.  He said that the performance was fair
  394. to poor, and that a dipole would have been much better.
  395.   On the other hand, K0CQ here in Ames designed the Rush Radio that
  396. picks up Limbaugh's shortwave broadcasts on 19M.  The antenna is an
  397. active loop that is tuned to the one specific frequency, and yet only
  398. occupies the back side of a standard-sized AM radio.  K0CQ does say,
  399. however, that the bandwidth on the antenna is very narrow, and that 25
  400. khz off the center frequency gives lousy results.
  401.   Look at it this way: it is possible to make a short antenna, but
  402. expect to make tradeoffs, either in performance or bandwidth.
